It’s never easy to be alone, especially when it seems like every other person around you has a partner. When your friends and classmates are dating, it’s often hard to feel left out of the dating scene. During those times it’s easy to lower one’s standards and want to be in a relationship than to not be in a relationship at all. When in all actuality, time is better spent waiting for the right person to come along than to spend it idly with someone you know you don’t want to be with for the long term. Breakups can be life-changing, earth-shattering, mountain-moving, but don’t let them dictate your life, and don’t think you are alone.
The average high school relationship lasts only 3 months, and what’s more interesting is that 98% of high school relationships do not continue into marriage. So, why put so much time and energy into just being in a relationship that is so fatally destined?
It’s literally okay to have higher standards for your boyfriend or girlfriend. There are things you deserve, and you should not settle for anything less.
- You DESERVE to be swept off your feet.
- You DESERVE to be with someone that is a good friend first.
- You DESERVE to be actively listened to and to have your opinions validated.
- You DESERVE to be with someone that respects your time with your friends.
- You DESERVE honesty… all the time.
- You DESERVE support…. all the time.
- You DESERVE to laugh… all the time.
- You DESERVE to be told how beautiful you are… inside and out.
- You DESERVE for your partner to respect your boundaries.
- You DESERVE space when you need it.
If the person you are dating or considering dating does not treat you with EVERYTHING you deserve, you DESERVE better. Don’t stress so much about not being asked out or falling head over heels for every person that shows the slightest bit of interest. Wait. Be patient. Love will come when you’re not looking.
When it comes to relationships, by all means BE PICKY. Have higher standards and the right person will sweep you off your feet when you let them.
