In our digital age, social issues take on a new dimension. One of them is online bullying amongst youth.
This is why Seventeen magazine and ABC Family have joined forces to launch a social campaign against the widespread bullying taking place amongst kids on the Internet. The multimedia campaign, Delete Digital Drama, will kick off on Tuesday, July 5.
Reflective of the partnership, the Delete Digital Drama campaign will tap into various media outlets to raise awareness.
Seventeen magazine will be tackling the print end of the campaign. Delete Digital Drama will be the focus of the magazine’s August issue, available on newsstands starting July 5. This issue will include personal stories from readers and ABC Family actors and actresses about their own experiences with bullying.
On air, stars from ABC Family hit shows (such as The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Pretty Little Liars) will speak out about the issue of digital bullying.
ABC Family will also be releasing a feature-length film called Cyberbully, starring Emily Osment (Hannah Montana), Kelly Rowan (The OC) and Kay Panabaker (No Ordinary Family). The film will premiere on Sunday, July 17 at 8:00 PM ET/PT.
As if that weren’t enough, Verizon has also joined in with a call-to-action text campaign. Beginning July 5, Verizon Wireless customers can text the word “Delete” to 3332 and pledge their support to end digital drama. This is an effort to get teens tuned in to the campaign using the devices that have become adolescents’ signature companion.
Online bullying is a serious issue that many teenagers have to deal with on their own. The campaign, however, will also show that there are support networks out there to help individuals who suffer from this.
