Listen and Learn

The other day I had an amazing experience! I got to meet, and talk with the amazingly talented, beautiful and savvy Allison Basinger, who is none other than the CREATOR of the AMAZING production called “The Outrage”.

The Outrage is a play that displays in your face statistics about teen dating violence and abuse, and also shows examples of abuse through some scenes that are strategically placed between the statistics. It is EXTREMELY impacting. Actually, I first saw this play in 7th or 8th grade, and that is what really got me to gear my life towards violence prevention. So in short, I guess you can say The Outrage changed my whole life. For me to meet the author was a HUGE deal.

Let me just say it takes a strong, knowledgeable person to create something so powerful, and Allison did not disappoint! It is so important to learn and be tutored by people who really do know what they are talking about. I have been so lucky to have been tutored and concealed by some amazing people.

When ever you get the chance, reach out to people and learn from them, you would be amazed by what they can teach you! If you are interested in the medical field, find a hospital to go volunteer at! Or perhaps you want to get into law, or management, find the people out there who can help you bring out your best.

I would like to give some recognition to a few people even though there are probably a few dozen I should be listing, that have showed me how to shine;

Rob Simon: Literally one of the most amazing guys you could ever meet. Rob ALWAYS knows how to solve a problem, has insightful ideas when the “idea well” has run dry, and has supported me and loved me for over 2 years now. Thank you Rob. :D

Sheila Kinnard: My middle school Drama teacher honestly impacted my life more than I think she will ever know. I learned so much from her, and thanks to her, I am never afraid to speak in front of an audience, I developed a theatre, and I learned how to reach for the stars and not be afraid of falling. My favorite Ms. Kinnard quote is: “Close your mouth, and listen. Cause when you speak, you are only telling things you already know, but when you listen, you might learn something new.”. Thank you Ms. Kinnard <3

Kim Voth: She is much more than my “Personal/Social Counseler” at East High, she is a friend. She has taught me that some things are better when you wait, yet lots of other things can be pulled off at the last minute and still be a smashing success! She showed me that compassion and understanding is one the the keys to success, and she has helped me believe in myself when I didn’t. Honestly, without her, the Choose Respect club at East High wouldn’t even exist. Thank you Mrs. Voth. :-P

I couldn’t possibly name everyone who has helped me and shown me how to live. Just know that I love you all, and couldn’t thank you enough.

Lastly, I implore that everyone of you find your mentor, and thank them for all they have done in your life. Leave a comment and let me know how someone has impacted your life in a positive way! :)

Over and Out!
